Yes, it's very whiny.
1) I didn't shim the sector gear since this is the very first test and I didn't know if it'd work at all
2) the pinion is SRC, the spur is G&G, the bevel is I think ZCI, and the sector is SRC
3)cameras tend to amplify the whiny sound of a gearbox
So what I did was dremel off the original cutoff cam and then glued on a piece of plastic on the opposite side:
What this does is change the timing of when the cutoff lever forces the trigger contacts apart, making the gun stop cycling while the piston is partially pulled back (aka precocking). Since it stops there, the next shot also starts cycling from there, drastically reducing the delay between pulling the trigger and the gun firing. The total whirring amount of gearbox sound is the same per trigger pull, it's just that you get the "shot" part of the cycle much earlier, so it's a bit hard to capture on camera.
This worked with a 7.4v (25C 1800mah) battery but not an 11.1v (25C 1800mah) battery on an m95ish spring. Exact placement of the new sector gear cutoff cam may vary depending on the setup, but then again for higher rates of fire there's not really much of a problem since you don't need to do any weird tricks to get great trigger response.
The most obvious problem with this is that you can't decompress your spring by shooting on semi anymore. If your gun has a QD spring guide or ARL release, then that's solved.
PERFORM THIS MODIFICATION AT YOUR OWN RISK, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHATEVER DAMAGE YOU CAUSE TO YOUR GUN. THE GUN I'M TESTING THIS IN HASN'T BEEN USED FOR LONG ENOUGH TO DETERMINE LONG-TERM SIDE EFFECTS.
